Pick your race, enter the time you want and get the pace for every kilometre at the same effort from start to finish: slower on climbs, a little faster downhill. With aid stations, gels and a printable pace band.
The pace for every kilometre, not just the average
Pace calculators give you one number for the whole race, and that only works on a flat course like the Valencia Marathon. At the Behobia, with Gaintxurizketa, Capuchinos and Miracruz, running average pace on the climbs burns you out and you never get it back on the descents. Here we spread your target time at the same effort over the whole course: every kilometre gets its own pace for its gradient, and you still finish right on time.
We also mark the aid stations, which ones to take a gel at (if the race lasts more than 75 minutes) and how your two halves work out. Print the pace band and wear it on your wrist. Is your race not on the list? Upload the official course GPX and we work it out the same way, in your browser.
- Flat course: the same pace every kilometre. Start 2–3 s/km slower for the first 3 and don't make up lost time in one go if the start is crowded.
- First half in 1:44:60, second in 1:44:60.

Even effort over the whole course: each 1% uphill adds ~3.3% time and each 1% downhill saves ~1.8% (with the biggest saving around −9%). Gels every ~40 min from minute 40 in races over 75 min, at the nearest aid station. Aid stations are approximate: check the race website.

Frequently asked questions
How should you pace the Behobia?
Easy until Gaintxurizketa (km 6–7), the longest climb: run about 20–25 s/km slower than your average pace there. Use the descent to Lezo and Errenteria without braking, save something for Capuchinos (km 13) and Miracruz (km 16–17), and let your legs go on the descent to Gros towards the finish.
What pace do you need for a sub-3 at Valencia?
4:16 per kilometre on average (2:59:59 over 42.195 km). As the course is flat, that pace works for every kilometre: best to start 2–3 s/km slower for the first 3 km and not be ahead of schedule at halfway.
When should you take gels in a marathon?
The first around minute 40, then every 35–45 minutes, always with water, so ideally just before an aid station. In a 3:30 marathon that is about 4–5 gels. Try them in long runs, never for the first time on race day.
Is San Silvestre Vallecana faster than a flat 10K?
Not really: although the finish is lower than the start, it begins uphill and the last two kilometres towards Vallecas climb. At the same effort most runners are as fast or a bit slower than on a flat 10K. The key is not to overdo the descent through the centre.
